With 5 travel days in 14 days, you'll have a chance to explore coastal cities, and mountainous getaways. Use your pass directly from Haneda or Narita airports in Tokyo and get going. 

If spectacular mountain scenery if your kind of thing hop on the shinkansen bullet train and head directly to the city of Nagano, home to the 1998 Winter Olympics. The surrounding area is also known as 'Japan’s Alps' owing to its snowy capped peaks and numerous ski resorts. 

Alternatively, check out Kazuizawa, a hot spring resort with golf courses, great cycling routes and ample other outdoor recreation activities to choose from. Head north to the Sea of Japan for Niigata, a modern city and one of the most important fishing ports in Japan. The city is also the gateway to Sado Island, a lovely small island with great hiking and diving options. 


IMPORTANT

• Flexible five-day pass: you can use the pass on any five days within a 14-day period starting with the date of purchase or exchange in Japan. You do not have to determine your 5 travel dates at the time of purchase or exchange
• The JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area) is available exclusively for non-Japanese passport holders who enter Japan under the entry status of 'Temporary Visitor'. Both of the below two conditions must be met for purchase and use:
  1. Traveler must have a passport issued by a country other than Japan
  2. Traveler must enter Japan as a temporary visitor and have ‘Temporary Visitor’ stamped in their passport
• Children under 6 years old do not need to purchase ticket, except for the need to specify the seat, you need to pay for the purchase.
• There are no tickets for youth and green (first class) cars.
• Each traveler can only purchase one pass for a trip. (A new ticket cannot be purchased until the ticket used for this trip expires.)

  (1) JR East Lines, Izu Kyuko Line, Hokuetsu Express, Echigo TOKImeki Railway: Arai-Naoetsu, Tokyo Monorail
  (2) The following limited express trains that directly run between the JR East lines and Tobu Railway lines: the Nikko, the SPACIA Nikko, the Kinugawa, and the SPACIA Kinugawa
  (3) The pass can be used for travel on local and rapid trains between Shimo-imaichi and Tobu-nikko/Kinugawa-onsen on Tobu Railway Lines. Between Kurihashi and Shimo-imaichi Stations, the pass may be used only on limited express trains that connect directly with Tobu Railway Lines

Ticket Validity

This voucher is valid within 3 months of the issued date. Ticket is valid for 5 days within a 14-day period from the date of exchange


Additional Information

• Child ticket: Age 6-11, free for aged 0-5
• Infants and babies travel for free, except that they need child's tickets in the following cases: 
  - When three or more infants accompany one adult or a child (tickets are required for the third and any additional infants)
  - When an infant or baby occupies his or her own reserved seat, Green Car seat or berth, etc.
  - When an infant travels alone
• When purchasing, it is necessary to present your passport. Passport copies cannot be accepted
• Please always bring your passport with you when traveling on the train. If needed, you might have to present the passport to the train crew
• If you take the trains out of the valid area, you might have to pay the extra fares
• While visiting in Japan, each visitor may have one JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) at a time.
• If you have already purchased a pass, you must wait until the validity period (14 days) of that pass ends before you can purchase another pass of the same type.
• The JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) is valid on ordinary cars.
• Luggage Restrictions: Passengers may bring up to two pieces of luggage, not including carry-ons and smaller bags, each piece may not weigh more than 30kg and its length, width and depth may not add up to more than 250cm, while its length may not exceed 200cm
