Your pilgrimage through northern Spain begins in the colourful Catalan city of Barcelona, weaving through bull fighting territory, the culinary capital of San Sebastian and Bilbao, home of the Guggenheim Museum. Marvel at the lush northern peaks of Picos de Europa, visit the pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela and bask in the golden glow of ancient Salamanca.

Transfer

On arrival at Barcelona Airport transfers will operate at 9.30am, 12noon, and 2.30pm. Guest arriving later should make own arrangement to the first hotel.

Return transfers on the last travel day will arrive at Madrid Airport at 8.30am and 1am.

Sightseeing Tour

Day 1 - Arrive Barcelona
Meet your fellow travellers and Travel Director, enjoy an evening drive to take in some of the city's main sights followed by a Welcome Reception.


Day 2 - Barcelona Sightseeing
View Gaudi's architecture at the inspiring Sagrada Familia. See the Ramblas, Plaça Catalunya and the monument to Christopher Columbus during your guided sightseeing tour with a Local Specialist.


Day 3 - Barcelona - Pamplona
Travel to Pamplona, the capital of the old Kingdom of Navarre See the ancient city walls and Plaza del Castillo, the heart of the city where markets, tournaments and even bullfighting have taken place.


Day 4 - Pamplona - San Sebastian - Bilbao - Santander
Arrive in the city of San Sebastian and see the beautiful Bahia de la Concha beach. Visit the City Hall, once the home of the casino or the Baroque Basilica of Santa Maria. In Bilbao view the modern Guggenheim Museum designed by architect Frank Gehry. Later arrive in Santander, capital of the Cantabrian region.


Day 5 -  Santander
The whole day is free to relax and unwind either with a day at the beach or a walk through the historic centre. Perhaps visit Gaudi's Capricho and the museum dedicated to the Altamira Caves.


Day 6 - Santander - Picos De Europa - Covadonga - Oviedo
Spectacular scenery awaits today as you travel through the Picos de Europa, a mountain range rich in flora and fauna. Visit the grotto of 'Our Lady of Covadonga' and the basilica made from the pink marble of the surrounding hills. Later arrive in Oviedo and enjoy a Be My Guest dinner where you will also learn about the local green cider.


Day 7 - Oviedo - Luarca - Santiago De Compostela
Hidden on the Asturian coast, Luarca is a quiet village and has managed to preserve its seafaring charm. Later arrive in the pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela. This, for many people, will be the end of their 'camino'.


Day 8 - Santiago De Compostela Sightseeing
Your Local Specialist will explain the 'Way of St James' and why thousands of people walk here as part of a pilgrimage annually. Visit the vast cathedral and the Praza do Obradoiro, a square dominated by four architectural styles. 


Day 9 - Santiago de Compostela – Zamora – Salamanca
Start the day with a drive through Galicia and the region of Castile-Leon to Zamora, known as a 'museum of Romanesque art'. Later arrive in Salamanca where a Local Specialist will take you on a sightseeing tour including views of Spain’s oldest University, the Cathedral as well as a walk through the imposing Plaza Mayor.


Day 10 - Salamanca – Madrid Sightseeing
On arrival in Madrid visit the Prado Museum which houses the largest collection of European art in the world. See the Plaza España, Gran Via, Puerta Del Sol and the Cibeles Fountain during your included sightseeing tour with a Local Specialist. Tonight join your Travel Director and fellow companions for a memorable Farewell Dinner with wine.


Day 11 - Depart Madrid
Say 'adios' to Spain and your newfound friends as your Spanish holiday comes to an end.
